Established in 1999, Cheryl Wixson's Kitchen works collaboratively with businesses, farms and fisheries, community organizations, educational institutions, and state and local agencies to provide a safe, secure and nutritional Maine food supply. Cheryl Wixson's Kitchen, the specialty food company, was founded in 2011 by Wixson and her family. Conceived as an economic development strategy for Maine agriculture, the company aggregated crops from over 60 Maine farmers at Coastal Farms & Foods in Belfast and brought 54 products to market. When Coastal closed in 2014, the processing capacity was mothballed until 2016 when a much smaller facility was licensed at Rabbit Hill. The specialty food side of the company continues to hand-craft small batches of artisanal products, test new recipes, and bring Maine products to market.
